The Park
As the National Park website says, “Deep Water in a Sleeping Volcano. Crater Lake inspires awe.” Not sure it can be described any other way. Be prepared for views that take your breath away as you gaze down into a crystal clear lake that happens to be the deepest lake in the USA at over 1,949 feet deep. One of our favorite activities is to search for the “Old Man of the Lake”, a 30 ft tall tree stump that has been bobbing and weaving its way around the lake since at least 1896. Of course, there are trails to explore in every direction. Hiking, biking and fishing all our activities you can do to while away your day. Want to get up close and personal with the lake? In the summer months, book a boat tour with a ranger and maybe you’ll get to do a meet and greet with the Old Man.
Winter is perhaps an even more beautiful time to visit and the park is extremely popular with cross country skiers and snowshoers. Feeling a little more adventurous, you can sled or downhill ski or snowboard everywhere in the park except the caldera. No chair lifts here so you are going to have to work for the ride.
